Looking for the perfect formal dress?

Girls wanting a unique look and one off gown for their formal without having to spend the big designer bucks should head for the Love Vintage Show, Summer series in Sydney (September 14 to 16) @ Canterbury Racecourse Function Centre.

Not only is vintage very in right now, but the nature of vintage makes each and every piece unique, so offers the perfect solution for those wanting to exude individual style at their next special outing, without having to go up the haute couture road.  And that is very much indicative of what today's high school students are wanting for their year 10 and 12 formals.  In fact, finding just the right dress that no one else will wear have become such an issue that there is now dedicated "don't copy" Facebook sites where girls are encouraged to upload pictures of their dresses ahead of their formal to ensure that no one else buys the same.

According to Nicole McLennan who manages the Love Vintage events there's an increasing number of girls who head to the shows for this very reason. She explains, "Along with the growing rivalry between girls for the best formal dress is a determination to show off with a very unique and individual dress, despite the fact the budget you'd need to acquire it is well out of the reach of students.  Vintage however, offers the perfect solution as the likelihood of another person having the exact same dress from the 1920s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s or even 80s is practically non-existent.  Plus vintage is so popular right now with shows like Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries showcasing fashion from the 1920's fashions and Madmen reviving the elegance of the 1950's fashions which are perfectly suited to special occasions such as formals."

At the upcoming Sydney Summer Love Vintage Shows, there will be many specialty store holders selling pristine condition gowns, especially from the 1950s, including Forever Vintage, Coco Repose, Coutura Vintage and Bonnie Rose Vintage. For those wanting to complete the look, there will also be fine and costume jewellery from across all eras of the 20th century, plus cute and quirky hair accessories. Check out Leigh's Collectables, Luxuriant, and Online Antiques.

Visitors will also enjoy fashion parades, workshops and music all weekend, and are especially encouraged to dress in vintage chic at the show's 'Red Carpet' opening on Friday evening. Wear your favourite fashions from the 1920s to 50s, 60s to (uh oh!) 80s complete with accessories, makeup and hair styling - strut your stuff on the catwalk for our judges and you might be crowned 'Best Dressed in Vintage'.
